Southern Golf Club

Southern golf club has a proud tradition of junior golf with many well known golfers starting their golfing carreers at Southern as juniors. Names such as Jason Dawes, Luke Hickmott, Ben Bunny, Kane Streat and most notably Cameron Percey and Australian Open Winner Bob Shearer all began their golfing careers at Southern all representing the club in pennant, the highest form of amatuer golf in Australia.

The club has a proud tradition in pennant winning numerous Division 1 flags, the most recent in 2003.

Juniors obviously don't just walk straight into pennant teams, Southern has many stepping stones to get juniors to this level. The most recognisable for kids just starting out in golf is the:

"Srixon Junior Golf Academy"

The academy is run by Peter Maznie & Kane Streat and is designed for kids of any age and any ability, as the program is sponsored by Srixon the kids receive from Srixon a club, glove, hat and balls to introduce them to the game, as well as receiving an hour of tuition from Peter and Kane every Tuesday afternoon Its great value and is good for the kids to learn not only about golf but about the etiquette of the game. The program runs for 6 months, with lessons every Tuesday. The academy is not limited to members of the club- non members are also welcome.
